Gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram sects on Friday
morning at about 5am, July 18 attacked Damboa in Borno
State, killing several people in the attack, according to
Premium Times.
The attack is coming a day after 27 people were reportedly
killed by the sects in a twin attack on July 15 around 6pm
in the Sabon Gari village of Damboa Local Government
Area of Borno state.
According to a vigilante official, Abbas Gava in Maiduguri
who said he spoke with some of his men in the Damboa
village said some youth vigilante group, known as Civilian-
JTF, and few vigilante officials were available in Damboa to
protect the people.
Mr Gava said: "Since the attack, Damboa has no police or
soldiers". "It is only the vigilantes that are there and we
know their limitations. The casualty could be very high
because my contacts in Damboa said they are still picking
and piling the corpses. But many houses, nearly half of
what remains of the several attacked town has been burnt".

Killed In Borno Attacks
Soldiers had reportedly deserted Damboa following several
attacks on the military base by the Boko Haram sect as
attempts by soldiers to return to Damboa military base
since two weeks ago are said to have failed as the Boko
Haram gunmen took over the highway and continued to
engage soldiers in ambush attacks that have forced them to
return to Maiduguri on two occasions.
A senior security personnel, who prefers to be anonymous
confirmed the attack to PREMIUM TIMES but said: "no details
on extent of damage or casualty yet".
Damboa local government area and Borno state as a whole
has been under attacks by the Boko Haram sect in the past
weeks.
On July 5, it was reported that the Boko Haram sect
attacked a military base and police Station in Damboa
Local Government area of Borno State killing no fewer than
12 soldiers, 4 policemen including a Divisional Police Officer
(DPO) and four civilians .
The Boko Haram, an Islamist group has caused havocs in
Nigeria especially in the Northern states through a wave of
bombings, assassinations and now abductions.
The sects who have claimed responsibility for several
attacks have continued to carry out their incessant attacks
on Borno communities despite a state of emergency in the
state by the Federal Government.
On July 1, a bomb explosion occurred in Maiduguri, Borno
State, which left 18 people and 55 severally injured.
On June 25, the suspected Boko Haram terrorists killed
about 16 soldiers at a military block-post, Bulabulin
Ngaura in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State.
Not forgetting the over 200 Chibok school girls abducted
by the sects on April 14 in Borno state who are yet to be
freed.
Damboa town is 85km south of Maiduguri, the Borno State
capital.
