The National Emergency Management
Agency, NEMA, has said that it has concluded
the search-and-rescue at the Synagogue
church building that collapsed last Friday.
The South-West spokesperson of NEMA,
Ibrahim Farinloye, stated this in a chat with
our reporter yesterday.
He said the search-andrescue operation has
ended, with 80 people dead and 131 rescued
alive.
Meanwhile, the General Overseer of
Synagogue Church of All Nations, SCOAN,
Pastor Temitope Joshua, has stated that God
would reveal those behind the collapsed
building
Eighty people died and 131 injured in the
Lagos incident involving Nigerians, South
Africans and other overseas nationals, Joshua
said.
South Africa's President, Jacob Zuma, on
Tuesday stated that 67 of his compatriots
were killed in the incident.
But rescue workers have said lack of
cooperation from the church authorities had
hindered the search operation and efforts to
establish the identity of the other victims.
Joshua, who did not comment directly on the
deaths, rejected claims that his officials had
obstructed the rescue effort and investigation.
He said: "The church, its members and
partners had been working closely with the
authorities in Nigeria, South Africa and other
nations to help the rescue effort and care for
the injured."
He described those who died as 'martyrs of
the Kingdom of God'.
"The pain of one is the pain of all. It is indeed
a sad and painful moment for the families and
friends of those who have lost loved ones.
"To all those who lost family members and
loved ones, please accept our heartfelt
commiserations.
