Tragedy struck in Ibaa community in Emohua local government of Rivers state on Sunday, September 14, 2014 as suspected cultists overran the area, shooting sporadically leading to the death of at least 4 persons. According to Vanguard, community sources confirmed that the shooting began very early in the morning and went on for 5 hours.

The shooting resulted in residents fleeing the area. Nobody could confirm the reason for the violence but community folks believe it could be a form of reprisal from the cultists.
The Rivers state Police public relations officer, DSP Ahmed Muhamad confirmed the attack, but said the police had stepped in and restored order.
“The command is aware of the incident. Our men are already there while normalcy has since been restored. Three suspects are in Police custody in connection with the incident,” he said.
A resident of the community also corroborated the statement by Muhamad, adding that he saw at least 4 corpses being taken into the police van.
